Mr. John Levenhagen, 86, of LaPorte, IN. died Wednesday June 17, 2009 at Valley View Health Care Center in Elkhart, IN. He was born November 30, 1922 in Momence, Illinois, the son of William Levenhagen and Nettie Mitchell Levenhagen. He had lived in the LaPorte, area, since 1926. John worked as a factory worker for Allis Chalmers and also worked as a custodian for the LaPorte School System for ten years.. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, a veteran of the US Navy during WW II, and a member of the LaPorte VFW. John enjoyed woodworking, making birdhouses and birdfeeders and selling them to friends at the Ye Ode Pipe Shoppe. On September 20, 1945, in LaPorte, IN., he married Lois Boyce, who preceded him in death October 24, 2004. He is survived by his daughter, Debra Bill Noe of Goshen, IN; son, Larry Janice Levenhagen of Fostoria, OH.; son, Leslie Nancy Levenhagen of La Porte, IN; son, Mark Kelly Levenhagen of Valparaiso, IN; daughter, Lisa Oakes of La Porte, IN; nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and one brother Tom Levenhagen of LaPorte, IN. John was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers and four sisters. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2009 at the Trinity Lutheran Church from 10:00 am, until time of the service. A Memorial Service will be held at the Trinity Lutheran Church on Saturday June 27, 2009 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Joseph Loftis officiating. Burial of ashes will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
