John Brown

Mr. John Henry Brown, 85, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Wednesday September 29, 2010 at his home. He was born March 25, 1925 in Lenior City, Tennessee, the son of Joseph H., Brown and Laura Wallace Brown. John worked as a janitor for Stelrema Corp. for nine years, retiring 1993. He was a member of Harvest Time Church of God of Michigan City, IN. and also served on the Pastor's Council for the church. He was a Cub Scout leader for Troop #390 in 1964 for United Methodist Church. John enjoyed collecting model trains, and traveling. He sang in the Indiana State Choir. John enjoyed going to Wal-Mart with the Coffee Club. He enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On August 31, 1957, in Lenior City, TN, he married Margaret Rogers Brown who survives. He is also survived by his son - Thomas Lynette Brown of Richmond, IN; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; sister - Effie Lintner of La Porte, IN; sister-in-law - Mabel Brown of Lenior City, TN. John was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Martha Ladd, and Dolly Smith; seven brothers, Anderson, Earl, Clarence, Jack, Jim, Sanford and Joe Brown. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Saturday, October 2, 2010 from 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday October 2, 2010 at 8:00 PM with Pastor Wayne Rosson and Rev. Ellis Martin officiating. Interment will follow at the Lenoir City Cemetery in Lenoir City, Tennessee. Memorial contributions may be made to the Family of John H. Brown.
