John Britton Sr.

John E. Britton, Sr. April 8, 1924-September 21, 2013 Mr. John E. Britton Sr., 89, of LaPorte, Indiana, died Saturday September 21, 2013 at his home. He was born April 8, 1924 in Logansport, Indiana, the son of John P. Britton and Lilly L. (Berkheiser) Britton. John was a farmer, he worked on his family farm and later farmed at Wyckoff Hybrid. In 1965 he started working for Howmet Corp and after 22 years he retired in 1987. He was a member of Assembly of God Church and a Veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII. John enjoyed fishing and hunting, gardening, playing golf and bowling. He was also interested in small wood working projects. On May 22, 1954, in La Porte, he married Elizabeth Wallace Britton who survives. He is also survived by his 3 sons - John (Jeneene) Britton ,Jr. of Westville, IN, Gary (Tari) Britton of Mill Creek, IN, Allan Britton of La Porte, IN; 2 grandchildren - Stephen (Edith) Britton, Stephanie (Jeff) Irk; 4 great-grandchildren - Ava and Lucas Britton, Lilianna and Elaina Irk; and 2 sisters - Sarah Maerz of Galien, MI, and Rosely Mick of Montpelier, OH. John was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Tuesday, September 24, 2013 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Wednesday, September 25, 2013 from 9:00 am until the time of service at the Assembly of God Church where a life celebration will be held at 10:00 am with Pastor Jeff Hines officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Assembly of God Church, 244 E. Boyd Blvd., LaPorte, IN 46350.
