John S. Blind Oct. 23, 1947 - Sept. 24, 2016 John Sterling Blind finished his final chapter in life on September 24, 2016. He began his story on October 23, 1947, born to Edna Jean and Arthur Sterling Blind. John proudly served in the Air Force from 1967 - 1969 and was a Vietnam Veteran, serving 3 tours of duty in Vietnam. He retired from Bethlehem Steel in 1985 and started his very successful business, Quality Industrial Services, eventually selling it in 2001. He was very active at the VFW Post 1130 and was proud to be a member. On June 28, 1986 he married Valerie Hough, who survives. Also surviving is a brother, Alan (Gaye) Blind of Baroda, MI.; sister Patricia Menzel of La Porte. Also surviving are his daughters Michelle (Rick) Fisher of North Judson, IN, Tracy (Scott) Banghart of La Porte, IN, Cherri (Jim) Stahl of LaPorte, Diana (Rob) Kuehl of Valparaiso; his son Jeff (Lana) Hough of La Porte and his very special "son" Jason (Kristen) Atwood of Kingsbury. He is survived by 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death are his parents and brother Ronald Blind, and his first born daughter Christine Elizabeth. John met up with his beloved dog Sheba, on the Rainbow Bridge. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Tuesday, September 27, 2016, from 9:00 am until the time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday September 27, 2016 at 11:00 am with Rev. Carl Galloway officiating.
