Jeraldine Cobb Latham, 74, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Tuesday November 10, 2020 at Brentwood Assisted Living in La Porte.
She was born April 21, 1946 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Luther Allen and Katie (Tipton) Cobb.
Jeraldine received her Bachelor of Business degree from the Tuskegee Institute (currently Tuskegee University), in Alabama, then worked as a planning engineer for IBM Computer in Wappinger Falls, New York, where she lived for 40 years. After spending some time in Cordova, TN, Jeraldine returned to La Porte to live until her passing. She attended and was actively involved in various churches, including Bethel Baptist in New York, where she served as a trustee, New Sardis Baptist in Tennessee, and 1st Baptist Church of Kingsford Heights, locally. Jeraldine was also an active member of Delta Sigma Theta sorority, where she held various positions within her chapter, including the office of President at one time. She had a passion for singing, especially Gospel music, and traveled with different singing groups. While in college, she sang with fellow classmate and soon to be famous, Lionel Richie. Jeraldine enjoyed crafting and sewing, making many debutante ball dresses, and traveling with her best friends, Barbara Jackson and Brenda Davis.
She is survived by her sister, Evelyn Ballinger of Kingsford Heights, IN; brother, Ronald Dwight (Carolyn) Cobb of Kansas City, KS; Godchildren, Asia and Stasia Mayhew of Poughkeepsie, NY and Christopher Ruffner of Chicago, IL as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
Jeraldine was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters, Marcel Cobb, Melvin Cobb, John Mitchell Cobb, Mary Helen Fisher and Charlene Olds.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Thursday November 19, 2020 from 11a.m. to noon. A Celebration of her Life will be held at Noon Thursday with Pastor Margaret Hunt, officiating, along with other esteemed clergy. Interment will follow at Pine Lake Cemetery, La Porte.
