Jeffrey Elkins, 76, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, passed away peacefully Tuesday January 31, 2023 at St. Joe Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.

He was born March 19, 1946 in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, the son of Willis Elkins and Margaret (Zellers) Elkins.

A lifelong resident of the area, Jeffrey graduated from Rolling Prairie High School, worked at Union 76 on the Indiana Toll Road and as a handyman with his brother, Ferris, prior to a long and successful career at Whirlpool Corporation.  On April 3, 1965, in Rolling Prairie, Indiana, he married Bobette Haverstock, who survives.  Together, they were members of the Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church, where he volunteered at the food pantry. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bears fan and always loved to get his hands on a lotto ticket. Jeffrey, or Scappy Pappi, as he was known, enjoyed scrapping and recycling with his grandson, Brandon. He loved riding his lawn mower, mowing both his and his oldest son's lawn and fishing and hunting in his free time. Jeffrey's passion, however, was his family. He adored dancing with his "Sweetie", and loved get-togethers with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Along with his wife of 57 years, Jeffrey is survived by his three sons, Dale (Samantha) Elkins of New Carlisle, IN, Robert (Danita) Elkins of New Carlisle, IN, Shawn Elkins of Rolling Prairie; two daughters, Tammy (Karl) Dorr of Caledonia, MI, Charlotte (Donald Jr.) Blint of Rolling Prairie, IN; brother, Ferris (Kay) Elkins of Walkerton, IN; two sisters, Yvonne (Stanley Jr.) Dopieralski of New Carlisle, IN, Tina (Bob) Paul of New Carlisle, IN; twelve grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Jeffrey was preceded in death by both parents and his sister, Betty Schimmel.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church with a Celebration of Life Service immediately following at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2023. Pastor Jo Ellyn Chadwick, Rolling Prairie United Methodist Church, Rolling Prairie, will officiate. A dinner will be served at the church after the service. Cremation will take place.
