Jean Marie Wiltfong
September 13, 1968-June 21, 2024
Jean Marie Wiltfong, 55, of Mill Creek, Indiana, passed away Friday, June 21, 2024 at her home.
She was born September 13, 1968 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Ronald Alan Hicks and Jean Ann (Smith) Hicks.
A lifelong resident of the area, Jean graduated from South Central High School, class of 1987, in Union Mills, Indiana. After high School Jean went on to pursue her education by attending trade school for cosmetology at Doree in Chesterton, Indiana. After cosmetology school Jean Hicks married Jeffery Van-Alan Wiltfong on August 20, 1994, at the Presbyterian church in Union Mills. Her life was marked by her passion for cosmetology and caring for her family. An avid nature enthusiast, she found joy in tending to her garden during the summer months, observing the hummingbirds at her feeder, and admiring the beauty of the monarch butterflies that visited her flowers. Jean's affection for animals extended to her ducks, Geico and Aflax, and her Blue Pit Bull, Jade Elizabeth. When she wasn't styling hair, she could be found canning and freezing her homegrown fruits and vegetables, like green beans, pickles, salsa, pasta sauce and various jams, to name a few. Jean also enjoyed cooking, especially with her Pampered Chef frying pan, and eating all the wild game her husband and daughter brought home to her. Sitting around a well-lit, toasty bonfire was Jean's happy place, any time of the year and her hand made kitchen towels, gifted to her family and friends, were cherished tokens of her love.
She will be sadly missed by those who survive her, including her husband of almost 30 years, Jeffery; her father, Ronald Hicks; her daughter, Janyelle (Kaleb) Homan of La Crosse, IN; brother, Donald "Skeeter" (DeAnna) Hicks of Louisiana; sister, Andrea (Jeff) Hicks-Jonas of Union Mills; aunt, Donna (Howie) Hunsley of La Porte; three nieces, Megan (Dan) Schergen and children, Alie Hicks, Kayla Wurster; cousin, Holleigh Hunsley, and a large extended family.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother.
