Janelle "Jan" Marie Welte, 81, of La Porte, IN, passed away at 10:10 pm Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Franciscan Health in Michigan City, IN.

Jan was born January 28, 1943, in Portland, ME, to Donald W. Currier and Helen M. (Bruns) Woodworth. She was married to Jerome A. Welte Sr. on February 25, 1982, in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on January 25, 2016.

Survivors include four children, Becky Moore (Dallis) of La Porte, IN, Nick Stegall of La Porte, IN, Brian Buckendorf (Tasha) of Mesa, AZ, and Sara McGuire of Muskegon, MI; eleven grandchildren, Dana Wilhelm (Doug), Brandie Spencer (Jolene), Matthew Miller (Stephanie), Samantha Moore, Kelsey Walker, Nicky Stegall, Tommy Buckendorf, Miranda Williams, and Raven, Breanna, and Tia from Muskegon; thirty three great-grandchildren; and ten great great-grandchildren.

Jan was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Jan's professional life was marked by her dedication and hard work. She was employed at House of Lloyd Toys and Gifts, served the community through her role at John Wood Community College, and later brought smiles to many as an associate at Walmart. Her commitment to her work was only surpassed by her commitment to her family and friends.

A woman of many passions, Jan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a green thumb, lovingly tending to her garden and planting flowers that brought beauty to her surroundings. Jan's creative talents shone through in her crocheting, where she crafted beautiful afghans that became treasured gifts for family and friends. A woman of faith, Jan found solace and strength in reading her Bible daily and listening to Christian music. Her spirituality was a guiding light in her life, providing comfort and inspiration to those around her. Jan's love for card games like spades and canasta brought joy and friendly competition to many gatherings. Her sweet tooth was legendary, especially during the holidays when she loved to bring everyone together.

Above all, Jan's heart belonged to her family. Her favorite place was at home with Jerome, and it brings comfort to know that they are now reunited. Her love for her family was her greatest gift, and it is this love that will continue to inspire and guide them.

Friends and Family are invited to a visitation that will be Friday, January 17, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy, IL.

A Funeral Ceremony will be at 10:00 am Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the O'Donnell-Cookson Life Celebration Home in Quincy. Rev. Tim Woodard will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy, IL.

Memorial contributions may be made to Becky Moore to help with final expenses.
