Mr. Jan D. Rose, age 66, of La Porte, Ind., died Monday, July 24, 2006, at 5:20 PM at La Porte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. He was born December 18, 1939 in La Porte, Ind. to the late Lawrence J. Rose and the late Leavenna Seible Rose. He lived in the La Porte area all of his life. Mr. Rose worked for the La Porte City Police Department and he joined the La Porte County Police Department on March 1, 1966 and was promoted to Sergeant on Sept. 15, 1971 and he served as Sheriff from 1979-1986. . He was a co-owner and operator of Rose Brothers & Sons for 19 years. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, father of the Year in 1977, Indiana State "Officer of the Year" in 1982 & 1986 and belonged to F.O.P. Lodge 54, Veteran of US Marine Corp. He attended ninth Session, Indiana Law Enforcement Academy, Region One Indiana Criminal justice Training School South Bend, Ind.; Indiana Vehicle Theft conference Indianapolis; Indiana Vehicle Theft seminar Purdue North Central; Basic Police Training seminar Police League, Indianapolis; Three FBI training seminars in South Bend, La Porte and Gary, Ind.; Chicago Police Department one week training session with the Vice and Narcotics Squad, Chicago Standard First Aid course; National Aquatic course Scuba Diver, La Porte YMCA; Identi-Kit Course Composite Operator, Terre Haute, Ind.; Supervisor Training Course Indiana Law Enforcement Academy; and Advance Fingerprinting Course Institute of Applied Science, LaSalle University, Ill.. Mr. Rose's achievements included Indiana Criminal Codes Seminar Indiana Law Enforcement Academy; He was the recipient of the American Legion Achievement Award in Law Enforcement; Certificate of Achievement Police League of Indiana; Law Enforcement Photography Eastman Kodak, Northlake, Ill.; Certificate of Appreciation La Porte City Police Cadets; National Training Institute, Drug Enforcement; Certificate, Law Enforcement Officers Training School South Bend; Certificate of Appreciation Boy Scouts of America; Charter member and instrumental in forming the LaPorte County Police Department Underwater Search and Rescue Team; Certificate for Jail Management Course Federal Jailer Correspondence Course, Bureau of Prisons; Certificate of Narcotics Indiana Law Enforcement Academy - two week session; IDACS and NCIC Terminal Training Session. For seven years Mr. Rose was a manager of the Rolling Prairie Cubs, Rolling Prairie Little League Baseball Team. He was named a Kentucky Colonel by Commonwealth of Kentucky, and Honorary Secretary of State by the State of Indiana. On June 4, 1960 in La Porte, Ind. he married Eyvette Kay Mishler who survives. He is also survived by his wife Mrs. Eyvette Kay Rose; Two Daughters, Jacqueline Eyvette Kay Rose to Michael Disbrow of La Porte, Ind., Jacqueline Marine Martin to Dennis McGinty of La Porte, Ind.; Four Sons, Jeffrey Jan to Jodi Carlson Rose of La Porte, Ind., Jody Jay to Angie Fultz-Wallace Rose of La Porte, Ind., Judd David to Shari Evans Rose of La Porte, Ind., Jason Jan Rose and Lisa Balenger of LaPorte, Ind.; Sixteen Grandchildren, Jeffery McGinty, Miki Lynn Disbrow, Amanda Wallace, Justin Rose, Mallory Disbrow, Jana McGinty, Marissa Disbrow, Jay Rose, Matthew Disbrow, Jared Rose, Cody Rose, Megan Rose, MaKenzie Rose, Mason Disbrow, Dylan Rose, Andrew Rose; One Sister, Darla Rose-Hall of La Porte, Ind.; One Brother, Larry S. Rose To the late Lynn Rose of La Porte, Ind. He is preceded in death by his parents and One Brother-in-law Tedd Mishler to Carol Mishler of Virginia who survives. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, July 27, 2006 and from 10:00 AM Friday until time of the Service at the LaPorte High School Auditorium. Funeral service will be at LaPorte High School Auditorium at 11:00 AM Friday, July 28, 2006 , Rev. Ted Nordquist and Celebrant Craig Malone officiating.
