James Dexter Winn September 30, 1931-November 23, 2017 James Dexter Winn, 86, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 23, 2017 at Brentwood Assisted Living in La Porte, Indiana. He was born September 30, 1931 in Lancing, Michigan, the son of Basil Winn and Betty (Wright) Winn. James served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1995 from the Indiana State Prison where he held the position as the union president at the Indiana State Prison for many years. James enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to casinos, and most of all he enjoyed spending his retirement traveling in his R.V. with his wife. On August 17, 1952, in La Porte, Indiana, he married Donna (Barber) Winn who survives in La Porte, Indiana. He is also survived by his two sons, Terry (Teresa) Winn of La Porte, IN, Douglas Winn of Lehigh, FL; three grandchildren, Amber, Abby and Chad; one step granddaughter, Jacque Michael; two great grandchildren, Emma and Violet; three step great grandchildren, Aiden, Colt and Charlie Ann. James was preceded in death by his his parents, one sister, and one brother. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Monday, November 27, 2017, 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday November 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana, where a military service will be conducted by the American Legion - VFW Honor Guard.
