James Tibbs November 21, 1946-June 23, 2019 James Tibbs, 72, of LaPorte, IN, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019 at Golden Living Center - Fountainview Terrace in La Porte, IN. He was born November 21, 1946 in La Porte, IN, the son of Virgil Tibbs and Dorothy (Wellinski) Tibbs . James was a long time member of the New Hope Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching game shows such as Wheel of Fortune, The Price is Right, and many others. James loved to spend time with his kids and grandchildren and enjoyed taking trips to Kentucky and Tennessee to do so. On March 1, 1969, in Rolling Prairie, IN, he married Ethel (Bailey) Tibbs who preceded him in death September 4, 2004. He is survived by his three daughters, Frances (Paul) Qualls of La Porte, IN, Barbara (Earl) Stacy of KY, Virginia (Michael) Davis of La Porte, IN; two brothers, Frank (Betty) Tibbs of TN, Mark Tibbs of La Porte, IN; sister, Vicki (Joe) Mikalajunas of MD; eight grandchildren, Aliesha Laine, Justin Qualls, Markus Qualls, Tyler Smith, Matthew Stacy, Haley Tibbs, Andrew Raven, Kayla Davis; three great-grandchildren, Jon Laine, Jaredan Laine, Major Laine, and many nieces and nephews. James was preceded in death by both his parents and wife. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Thursday, June 27, 2019, 10:00 am - 11:00 am. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday June 27, 2019 at 11:00 am with Pastor Monroe Jones officiating.
