James Schroeder

Mr. James R. Schroeder, 81, of 209 Morrison St., LaPorte, died Friday October 22, 2004, at 7:46 pm at the LaPorte Hospital. He was born October 13, 1923, in LaPorte, IN., to Charles and Myrtle Lower Schroeder and has lived in the LaPorte area all of his life. Mr. Schroeder retired in 1973 as a captain from the LaPorte City Fire Department after 20 years of service. After retirement he became the building manager for Dr. Applegate for an additional 15 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church of LaPorte, and a past secretary of the LaPorte Elks Lodge. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during W.W. II. On June 14, 1943, in McCook, NE, he married Loreen Reen Shultz who survives. Also surviving are 2 daughters, Pennie Ronald Grover of Detroit, MI., Paula Ron Ayres of LaPorte; 2 sons, William Jeanne Schroeder of Rhode Island, James P. Nancy Schroeder of Goodman, MS.; 4 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; and one brother, Fred Coleen Schroeder of LaPorte. Preceding him in death are his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. The funeral will be Tuesday October 26, 2004 at 12:00 p.m. Noon at the Haverstock Funeral Home. Friends may call Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the service.
