James Ray Peterson December 25, 1960-February 6, 2015 Mr. James Ray Peterson, 54, of Venice, Florida, formerly of Kingsford Heights, died Friday February 6, 2015 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, FL after a 6 month long illness. He had lived in Florida for over 30 years. He was born December 25, 1960 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Larry Peterson and Janet (Herbst) Peterson. James was active in sports. He played baseball with the Hoosier Boys Club, starting when he was 5 years old. James also played football and basketball, he has many trophies that he won. He graduated from LaPorte High School in 1979. James had gone to school to become a plumber and worked seventeen years at Babe's Plumbing. James was also a backhoe operator for Babe's and installed optical wiring through out Florida. He was a past member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Hamlet, IN. He loved to watch sports and fishing. James had 2 cats that he adored Alexa and Smoky Joe. He is survived by his parents; sister, Sue Downs of Hamlet, IN; sister-in-law, Susan Peterson; three aunts, Sharolyn J. (Roger) Geren, Trudy Morris, and Tina Herbst; one uncle, Alfred J. (Beverly) Herbst; great aunt, Loretta Wyatt; three great-uncles, Kingsley L. Young, Arnold (Loreta) Young, Glenn M. (Jacki) Young; three nephews, Michael L. Peterson, Gregory P. Downs, Nathaniel A. Peterson, and many cousins. James was preceded in death by his brother, Larry Peterson Jr., niece, Jessica Peterson, two uncles, Jerry E. Herbst, and Jason A. Herbst. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN There will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church of Tracy, Saturday March 7, 2015 at 10:30 am with David Albertin officiating.
