James Miller Sr.

James A. Miller Sr. October 12, 1928-September 22, 2016 Mr. James A. Miller Sr., 87, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Thursday September 22, 2016 at Miller's Health and Rehab Center in LaPorte, IN. He was born October 12, 1928 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Alfred Miller and Vivian (Peterson) Miller. James worked as a mechanic for 26 years at the Soetje Ford and at Sauer's car dealership for 3 years. He loved playing cards, gardening, hunting with his beagles and enjoyed horse back riding. On May 2, 1953, in Bridgeman, MI, he married Rose (Svoboda) Miller who preceded him in death March 6, 2007. He is survived by his two sons, James A. (Katherine) Miller Jr. of LaPorte, IN, Thomas R. Miller of La Porte, IN; two daughters, Katherine (James) Pedretti of La Porte, IN, Nancy M. Arndt of La Porte, IN; five grandchildren, Sarah Pedretti, James Pedretti, Taylor Arndt, Morgan Arndt, Joy Beth (Matt) Kniola; and brother, Charles D. Miller of Kalamazoo, MI. James was preceded in death by his parents, wife and a brother, Jack C. Miller. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Sunday, September 25, 2016, 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm and Monday, September 26, 2016, 10:00 am - 11:00 am. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday September 26, 2016 at 11:00 am with Rev. Everett Shattuck officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Assoc.
