Mr. James W. Mewbourne, 71, of La Porte, Indiana, died Thursday October 21, 2010 at Golden Living Center Fountainview. He was born May 2, 1939 in Lester, Alabama, the son of Gerlin W. Mewbourn and Oma Lou Long Mewbourn. James owned and operated Mewbourne Construction for over 30 years. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Indiana Field Archery Assoc, National Field Archery Assoc, Gracy's Target League, and Gracy's Hunter League. He was a Veteran of the US Army. He is survived by his life partner - Kathy S. Matz of La Porte; 3 daughters - Kay Hill of Salem, AL, Kimberly Fletcher of Athens, AL, Jill Mewbourne-Carlson of La Porte; son - Rodney Mewbourne of La Porte; step-mother - Vanetta Mewbourn of Rogersville AL; 4 step-sons - Jeff Robinson, Danny Kirkham, David Kirkham, Michael Kirkham; step-daughter - Melissa Moore; 10 great grandchildren; 7 grandchildren; 2 sisters - Deborah Nesmith of Rogersville, AL, Nellie Green of Athens, AL; James was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ruth McLemore, and brother, Richard Mewbourn. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, October 26, 2010 from 4:00 - 8:00 pm & Wednesday, October 27, 2010 9:00 am until time of the service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday October 27, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Pastor Jack M. Cox officiating. Interment will follow at the Round Lake Cemetery, Knox, Indiana.
