James Cerny

James C. Cerny March 28, 1947-July 22, 2016 James C. Cerny age 69, peacefully passed away on Friday, July 22, 2016. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary E. (Furry) Cerny; children, Craig (Angela) Cerny, Cynthia (Patrick) Twohig and Christine (Chuck) Parr; grandchildren, Sylvia and Elaina Cerny and Sheldon Twohig; sister, Kristi (John) Waymire; cousins, Sheldon "Don" Johnson, Gwen Meadows and Phillip Cerny, nieces, nephews and dear friends. Preceded in death by his parents, George and LaVerne Cerny. Jim was born in Chicago, IL and was a graduate of Kansas State University. On April 3, 1971, he married Mary E. Furry in Danville, IN. Jim retired from Parco Foods Inc. in 1995 to spend more time with his family on the farm. He was a member and past president of the Indiana Paint Horse Club, a member of the American Paint Horse Association, the American Quarter Horse Club, the Pinto Horse Association of America, the Appaloosa Horse Club and the Indiana Farm Bureau. Jim truly loved music. In high school, he managed a rock band, which opened for the Beatles, Beach Boys, Rolling Stones and various others in Chicago. He and Mary along with their children traveled all over the country showing home grown Appaloosa Horses. He also followed his twin girls through their 10 years of 4-H in St. Joseph County. Jim's latest achievement was to attend the 2013 American Pinto Association World Show with a home bred and trained gelding and had a successful show. Jim enjoyed spending time with family especially his three wonderful grandchildren. Jim was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will deeply be missed by all whose lives he touched. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 4:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home. Celebration of Life Services will be held on Friday, July 29, 2016 at 7:00 pm at Haverstock Funeral Home 602 Maple Avenue La Porte, IN with Mike Martin, officiating.
