Jacob Bernard Grott April 1, 1996-October 8, 2018 In life, one little decision can make a huge impact on not just you, but also those that love and care for you. Jacob had a loving and supporting family and had everything a young man could want. But drugs took ahold of his life, changed him, and destroyed so much of the hope and promise in his future. Jacob was taken from us way to soon by a substance abuse related accident. Jacob was born on April 1, 1996 in South Bend, Indiana. He graduated from New Prairie High School and went on to graduate from Wabash Valley College where he earned his gun-smithing certificate. He was employed by the Carpenters Union Local 1485 and the excitement showed when he received his union card to begin work. Jacob loved to be outdoors where he hunted, fished and played in the snow. Several snowmobile trips that made him smile and always asked to go again. He loved spending time with family and friends that loved and adored him so much. Jacob was the person that you could call and he would be there for you. He gave so much of himself but in return could no longer fight with his addiction. He is survived by his dad and step-mom James (Lisa) Grott, mom, Brenda Peterson and Matt Hutchens, sister Bailey Peterson, paternal grandfather Bernard Grott, maternal grandparents Gib and Linda Peterson, nephews Jason, Christopher and Nicholas, niece Zarah, several aunts, uncles and cousins and his closet friend Kevin. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Phyllis Grott, uncle Paul Grott and great-grandfather Joe Barilich. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Indiana where the family will receive friends Saturday, October 13, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday October 13, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana at a later date.
