Izora Shoffner

Izora "Nanny" Shoffner Apr. 15, 1919 - Nov. 2, 2013 Izora "Nanny" Shoffner, of La Porte, passed away at the age of 94 on Saturday November 2, 2013 at the home of her daughter Lucilla Fee, surrounded by all of her loved ones. She was born April 15, 1919 in Union County Tennessee to Reverend Sylvester and Veddie (Luttrell) Wilson. On July 28, 1934 she married Bennie Shoffner who passed away on June 25, 1972. She was preceded in death by her parents, 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and one great grandchild Montana Skye Scott. She is survived by 2 daughters, Minnie (Lloyd) Thorndyke of La Porte Lucilla (Ron) Fee of Hamlet, IN; 2 sons, Clarence (Penny) Shoffner of Paducah, KY, and Glen (Karen) Shoffner of Lebanon, TN. She was the proud grandmother of 16 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. She has 3 surviving sisters-in law, Della Parrish, Helen Hatchel both of La Porte and Viola Frederick of La Follette, TN and one brother-in-law Richard Shoffner of Hamlet, IN. She was loved by many nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends including Ronnie, Vonn, Ken and Millie. Izora was always a loving and caring mother, grandmother and friend to all those who knew her. She was known to everyone as "Nanny". She loved to travel and her favorite places included Hawaii, New York City, Las Vegas, and Tennessee. She loved to make quilts and made them for most of her family members. Izora was a faithful and devout Christian all her life and taught her family to love the Lord. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in La Porte, IN. Izora retired from Kingsley Furniture after many years. She then spent the remainder of her life loving and caring for her family. Nanny enjoyed a full life and we are so very grateful for her time with us. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 12:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Thursday, November 7, 2013 from noon until time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Thursday November 7, 2013 at 1:00 pm with Rev. Curtis Southwood officiating.
