Howard J. Keller, 87, of Michigan City, Indiana, passed away, Wednesday September 1, 2010 at his home. He was born August 16, 1923 in Mill Creek, Indiana, the son of Daniel W. Keller and Mary G. Byerley Keller. Howard worked for Teledyne Casting Service for twenty-nine years, retiring in 1985. He was a Veteran of the US Army during WW II, past commander, and life member of VFW Post #2536, a long-time member of the VFW Post #2536 Honor Guard and was awarded "Veteran of the Year" by the VFW Ladies Auxillary #2536. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 451, Moose Lodge #980, FOP #75, former member of Blue Lodge #83 F.&A.M., Scottish Rite, Orak Shrine and marched in many parades with the Oriental Band. He enjoyed bowling, golf and gardening. He was married on September 24, 1949 in LaPorte, Indiana to Maxine English, who preceded February 28, 1970. On July 1, 1972, in Michigan City, IN, he married Luella Timm, who survives. He is also survived by his two daughters - Diana Harold Eschenbrenner of Foristell, MO, Debra Jim Ford of Meridian, MS; step-son - Barry Kathryn Timm of Brownsburg, IN; eight grandchildren , Scott Eschenbrenner of O'Fallon, MO, Todd Sarah Eschenbrenner of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Jon Eschenbrenner of Creve Coeur, MO, Adam Tamara Timm of Jupiter, FL, Brian Megan Timm of Avon, IN, Allison Timm of Indianapolis, IN, Kristen Timm of Knoxville, TN, Misty Rob McGraw of Meridian, MS; six great-grandchildren - Jordan and Keller Eschenbrenner of St. Croix, Virgin Islands; Donovan Timm of Jupiter, FL, Addison and Kaden Timm of Avon, IN, Taylor Hollingsworth of Meridian, MS; two sisters - Alliene Renz of Rolling Prairie, IN, Dorothy Hope of Charlotte, NC., and numerous nieces and nephews. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, four sisters, Rose Kellogg, Barbara Ratliff, Helen Lewallen, Aletha Shipton, five brothers, Gerald Keller, Leon Keller, Ray Keller, Herschel Keller, Omer Keller. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Friday, September 3, 2010 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm. A private family service will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday, September 4, 2010 with Rev. Robert Raschka officiating. A military service will be conducted by the VFW Post #2536 and American Legion Post #451 Honor Guard of Michigan City, IN. at 7:30 pm on Friday, September 3, 2010 at the Haverstock Funeral Home.
