Howard Hughes

Howard W. Hughes , 86, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away on Sunday December 26, 2010 at Golden Living Fountainview in LaPorte. He was born December 30, 1923 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the son of John Hughes and Mary Pasture Hughes. Howard was an engineer for NIPSCO for twenty-three years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, LaPorte Masonic Lodge, LaPorte Chapter OES. Howard was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp.during WW II. On February 1, 1948, in LaPorte, IN, he married Betty Garwood Hughes who survives. He is also survived by his son - John Diane Hughes of La Porte, IN; two grandchildren - David Hughes of Evanston, IL, and Michael Hughes of Urbana, IL. Howard was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Russell Hughes and Robert Hughes. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 29, 2010 from 10:30 am, until the time of service at the Bethany Lutheran Church.. Services will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, Wednesday December 29, 2010 at 11:30 AM with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating. Interment will follow at the Carmel Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
