Mr. Henry A. Bernth, age 90, of 2002 Andrew Ave., La Porte, Ind., died 5:48 P.M. Monday, June 20, 2005, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, Ind. He was born November 25, 1914 in Michigan City, IN. to the late Peter Bernth and the late Edith Zahrt Bernth. He has lived in the LaPorte area all of his life. Henry worked at Allis-Chalmers and Modine Manufacturing in La Porte and owned Bernth Mobil Service at the corner of Indiana and Jefferson Avenues for several years before going to work at Inland Steel in Gary. He was a faithful member of St. John Lutheran Church, volunteering in a number of church activities. He graduated from St. John Lutheran School and attended LaPorte High School. He and his younger brother, "Fritz," played independent basketball at the old St. John Parish Hall. He was an avid fisherman in his younger days and enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren, great grandchildren and his many friends. He remained a "die hard Cubs fan" through the years. He will be missed for his loyalty to his family and friends and his jovial, outgoing personality. On October 16, 1948, in LaPorte, IN. he married Bernice Sieczka who survives. Also surviving are One Daughter, Mrs. LuAnn Bacon of League City, Texas; Two Sons, Mr. Robert Martha Bernth of La Porte, Ind. Mr. Dennis Tina Bernth of Mill Creek, Ind.; Seven grandchildren, Rev. Erik Sara Bernth, Portage, IN; Steven Amy Bernth, LaPorte; Jason Lisa Bernth, St. Louis, MO; Sarah Bernth, LaPorte; Christopher Bernth, Carbondale, IL; Leia Vincent, Chicago, IL and Krystl Vincent, LaPorte; Four Great grandchildren: Joseph, Charles, Carter and Brady Bernth. He is preceded in death by his parents and One Brother, Frederick Bernth. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, June 23, 2005, and Friday from 10:00 AM until time of the service at the St. John Lutheran Church. Funeral service will be at St. John Lutheran Church at 11:00 AM Friday, June 24, 2005 , Rev. Ronald Brauer officiating. Interment will be at Patton Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind.
