Helen L. Small July 26, 1924-June 1, 2018 Helen L Small, 93, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018 at St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Michigan City, IN. She was born July 26, 1924 in Michigan City, Indiana, the daughter of Harvey Lubke and Murial (Timm) Lubke. Helen was a member of the Agape Christian Church. She opened Smalls Garden Center with her husband Walter and ran it for 50 years retiring in 1987, her children are now running the family business. She enjoyed playing cards, swimming and spending time in Florida, fishing and boating with her husband, Walter, and she loved spending time with her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her great great grandchild. On May 19, 1950, in La Porte, she married Walter A. Small who preceded in death December 3, 1997. She is survived by her two daughters, Julie Krcilek of La Porte, IN, Rebecca Whitacre of La Porte, IN; son, John (Joann) Small of South Bend, IN; son-in-law, Roger Marshall; 6 Grandchildren, Nicholas (Paige) Wawok, Melanie Krcilek, Chris (Monica) Szalajko, Kyra (Tim) Niegos, Matthew (Ashley) Hammond, Rachel (Adam) Sullivan; 14 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Nancy Marshall, 2 brothers, Oscar Lubke, and Norman Lubke. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Tuesday, June 5, 2018, 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm Wednesday, June 6, 2018, 9:00 am until time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday June 6, 2018 at 10:00 am with Rev. Rodney Nielsen officiating.
