Mrs. Gwendolyn "Elsie" E. Cummings, 81, of La Porte, Indiana, died Thursday July 30, 2009 at her home in La Porte, IN. She was born March 20, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Harvey Hanna and Elsie Gross Hanna. Elsie was a homemaker. She was a member of First Baptist Church of LaPorte and Faith Circle. Elsie enjoyed reading, cooking and flower gardens. She loved to sew and spend time with her family; Elsie was a very devoted Mom. On May 18, 1947, in Knox, IN, she married George Robert Cummings who survives. She is also survived by her five daughters, Gwen Stephen Wurster of Plantation, FL, Judy Ken Buss of Rolling Prairie, IN, Laura Jerry Thomas Cummings of La Porte, IN, Gail Rich Borror of North Liberty, IN, Mary Chris Countryman of New Carlisle, IN; three sons, Robert Bonnie Cummings Jr. of LaCrescent, MN, Thomas Carol Cummings II of Union Mills, IN, James Cummings of Chicago, IL; Twelve Grandchildren, One Great-grandchild, one sister, Lillian Alsop and several nephews. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Friday, July 31, 2009 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 10:00 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday August 1, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Burial of ashes will be held at the Door Village Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana at a later date.
