Glen Fleming

Glen D. Fleming November 18, 1915-June 8, 2017 Glen D. Fleming, 101, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday June 8, 2017 in La Porte, Indiana. He was born November 18, 1915 in Valparaiso, Indiana, to the late Walter E. Fleming and Grace B. (Baum) Fleming. He was a life member of D.A.V., and a member of the N.R.A. (National Rifle Association) For forty-four years Glen was the owner and mechanic of Holderbaum's Garage. Glen enjoyed fishing, being a tour guide for Kesling Auto Museum, and "fixing and tinkering" with different things for family and friends such as being a radio repairman for the police department. Glen was a naval fighter pilot during WWII, and earned a Purple Heart and various other medals. At the age of 98, he attended the Honor Flight from Chicago to Washington DC. On May 5, 1946, he married Emmabelle (Barnhart) Fleming who preceded him in death October 22, 1994. He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Marian Fleming of La Porte, IN; three grandchildren, Julie (Rich) Bukva, Karen (Robert) Whalen, Laura Day, all of La Porte, IN; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Day, Kaitlyn Day, Christopher Whalen, Chase Whalen; four sisters, Pauline Weber, Shirley Johnson, Betty Lorraine Murvihill, and Judy Pelham. He was preceded in death by son, Duane Fleming, great-grandson, Daniel Whalen, and sister, Gladys Miller and one brother, Marion Fleming. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Thursday, June 15, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. and Friday, June 16, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Friday June 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Larry Owen officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana where he will receive full military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to the Honor Flight of Chicago, 938 W.
