Gladys A. Schoof March 3, 1915-March 23, 2014 Mrs. Gladys A. (Wilhelm) Schoof, 99, of Hamlet, Indiana, died Sunday March 23, 2014 at Golden Living Center Fountianview, LaPorte, IN. She was born March 3, 1915 in Springfield Township, the daughter of George Wilhelm and Augusta (Boettcher) Wilhelm. On November 24, 1932, she married Lawrence W. Schoof of New Tracy, IN. and lived there her entire life. She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ in La Porte. Mrs. Schoof worked for LaPorte Community School Corporation as a kitchen manager at Kingsford Heights Elementary School before her retirement. She took great pride in her gardens and her home. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She leaves us with memories of her love of nature and her devotion to all. She is survived by her 2 sons - Arnold (Dottie) Schoof of Hamlet, IN, Larry (Liz) Schoof of Hamlet, IN; daughter-in-law - Arlene Schoof of La Porte; 6 Grandchildren - Shelley (Mark) Cravens, Christine (Curt) Cable, Marc (Lisa) Schoof, Janet (Robert) Archer all of La Porte, IN, Lois (Michael) Swanson of Rolling Prairie, IN, Julie (Jeffrey) VanLiew of Brownsburg, IN; and 11 great grandchildren. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Schoof, son, Melvin Schoof, 2 grandchildren, Gene Schoof, Pamela Schoof, 4 sisters, Dorothea Schoof, Emma Bradley, Louise Kievert, Leona Wilhelm, 4 brothers, Earl Wilhelm, George Wilhelm, Irving Wilhelm, and Leonard Wilhelm. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Tuesday, March 25, 2014 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 9:30 am until time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday March 26, 2014 at 10:30 am with Rev. Victor Frohne officiating. Interment will follow at the Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the LaPorte Hospital Foundation Heart Unit, P.O. Box 250, La Porte, IN 46350.
