Girnell West

Mrs. Girnell West, age 92, of La Porte, Ind., died Friday, December 12, 2008, at LaPorte Hospital in LaPorte, Ind. She was born Feb. 2, 1916 in Vicco, KY to the late James Tidwell and the late Henrietta Raulston Tidwell. She has live in the LaPorte area most of her life. Mrs. West was retired in 1981 as a nursing assistant for LaPorte Hospital after 26 years of service. She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother. She loved everyone in her family very much. On June 25, 1934 in Oliver Springs, Tenn. she married Arthur West who preceded in death April 18, 1984. She is survived by her Daughter, Mrs. Barbara Willard Combs of Knox, Ind. Thirteen grandchildren; Thirty Four great-grandchildren; Forty Five great-great grandchildren; Five Sisters, Miss Glen Tidwell of Abingdon, Va., Mrs. Ethel Koons of LaPorte, Ind., Mrs. Minnie Jenkins of Martinsville, VA, Sharon Bandy of West Virginia, Karen Bandy of West Virginia; and One Brother, Mr. James Tidwell of West Virginia She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Allen West; one daughter, Bobbie June West; three sisters, Ruth King, Cora Tidwell, Onalee Blevins; two brother, Floyd Tidwell, James Tidwell; one grandchild and two great great grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM Tuesday, December 16, 2008. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 1:30 PM Tuesday, December 16, 2008, Rev. Dennis Jeffers officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind. Memorial contributions may be made to the Starke Co. Community Foundation or the Tod Bacob Stephenson Fund or the LaPorte Hospital Foundation or to the donor's choice.
