George Balling

Mr. George O. Balling, age 82, of La Porte, Ind., died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at his residence in La Porte. He was born May 7, 1926 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Otto Balling and the late Augusta Burm Balling. He has lived in the LaPorte area for forty years coming from Chicago, Ill. Mr. Balling was employed as a supervisor by Illinois Bell Telephone Co. for 36 years and retired in 1982. He was a veteran of the US Navy during W.W. II. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Pioneers of America. He enjoyed life, he loved being around water, traveling and going on cruises. He and Elaine also lived in Gulf Port, Florida through the winter months. On Jan. 4, 1947 in Hammond, Ind. he married Elaine Klein who survives. He is also survived by Four Daughters, Mrs. Susan Leo Poynton of Woodridge, Ill., Mrs. Nancy John Wise of Bolingbrook, Ill., Mrs. Patricia James O'Brien of Westfield, Ind., Mary James Kennedy of New Lenox, Ill; One Son, Mr. George C. Mary Balling of Coeur D Alene, Idaho; a Daughter-in-law Mrs. Elsie McCarthy of Orland Park, Ill.; Fifteen grandchildren; Seven great-grandchildren; One Sister, Mrs. Annette LaMontagne of Glenview, Ill., and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Two Brothers, and Five Sisters. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 9:00 PM Friday, November 7, 2008 and from 9:00 AM to 9:45 AM Saturday. Funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 AM Saturday, November 8, 2008, Rev. Ted Nordquist officiating. Interment will be at Pine Lake Cemetery in LaPorte, Ind. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made the St. Joseph Grandparents program or the Missionary of Sacred Heart of Aurora, Ill.
