Geneva Marcella Burns Carpenter, age 79, of LaPorte, IN, died Tuesday, December 20, 2005, at LaPorte Hospital in La Porte, IN. She was born August 19, 1926 in Berrien Springs, MI, to Harold Burns and Betty Philo Burns, who has preceded. Also preceded is her husband, Mr. John Lee Carpenter, her brother, Donald C. Burns, a daughter, Joyce Stevens, a granddaughter, Carrie Stephens. Mrs. Carpenter has lived in the LaPorte area since 1945, coming from Michigan. On October 29, 1945 in Michigan City, Indiana, she was married to John Lee Carpenter, who preceded December 1983. Mrs. Carpenter was employed by Memorial Hospital in Housekeeping, for 13 years, retiring in 1988, she was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church. She was also a member of Rose Rebekah #408, LaPorte, LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary, American Red Cross Volunteer, Women of the Moose #935 of Michigan City, Indiana. Surviving is a Daughter, Mary Ellen McFadden of LaJunta, Calif. Three Sisters, Helen Bloomquist of Hutchinson, Kan, Nancy Jim Niemeyer. of Saint Petersburg, Fla, Linda Burns of St.Petersburg, Fla, Three Brothers, Russell Burns of Michigan City, IN, Harold Burns, Jr. of Saint Petersburg, Fla, Dale Burns of St.Petersburg, Fla, Mrs. Carpenter has Four grandchildren, Five great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, December 26, 2005, and from 8:00 AM Tuesday December 27, 2005 until time of service. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 10:00 AM Tuesday, December 27, 2005 , with Pastor David Matevia officiating. Interment will be at Swan Lake Memorial Garden in Michigan City, IN. A Service will be held by the Rose Rebekah #408 at 7:00 PM Monday 12/26/05 at Haverstock Funeral Home.
