Frederick "Fred" Allen Hedington
June 1, 1939-January 1, 2022
Frederick Allen Hedington, 82, of North Liberty, Indiana, passed away Saturday January 1, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN.
He was born June 1, 1939 in Kosciusko County, Indiana, the son of Roy Hedington and Lillian (Winkler) Hedington.
On October 14, 1961, at St John's Lutheran Church in La Porte, Fred married his beautiful wife, Betty L. Vantine, who survives him.
He is also survived by his son, Douglas (Stef) Hedington of North Liberty, IN; daughter, Debra (Mark) Podemski of North Liberty, IN; sister, Martha Roberts of Goshen, IN; two sister-in-laws, Barbara Hedington of Winona Lake, Rita Vantine of La Porte, IN; two grandchildren, Christopher Hedington of N. Liberty and Alan Kajzer of La Porte; great grandson Easton Hahn; step-grandson, David Molnar, step great granddaughter, Jordan Molnar and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Paul, Bob and Lee and sisters, Goldie, Maddie, Ruby, Ruth and Marie.
A farmer all of his life, Fred came to the area in 1962. An outgoing man, he could strike up a conversation with anyone - he never met a stranger. He was a grain farmer and until 1995, he and his wife milked cows every day on their dairy farm. Fred was a member of Sunday Farmers Tractor Club, a Past Member of the Warren Township Fire Department and was a 4-H leader in Warren Township for 40 years. He had several tractors and enjoyed going to Antique Tractor Shows, like the Rantoul show that he just attended with his family, and riding in the Fair parade. Fred and Betty also delivered the South Bend Tribune for 37 years. Most important, though was that Fred was a family man. He was a great husband, father, son, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend. He taught his kids that hard work never hurt anyone, and even at 82, still worked in the fields with them. He will be missed by so many.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends for a visitation Wednesday, January 5, 2022 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. central time and Thursday, January 6, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to service time at noon. Pastor Jay Loucks will officiate. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery.
