Fred Day

Fred L. Day July 31, 1923-December 28, 2014 Mr. Fred L. Day, 91, of Knox, Indiana, and formerly of La Porte, died Sunday December 28, 2014 at Indiana University Health Starke Hospital in Knox, IN. He was born July 31, 1923 in Peru, Indiana, the son of Joseph Day and Martha (Britton) Day. Fred worked as a machinist for Allis Chalmers Corp. for over 35 years and retired in 1982. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during W.W. II. He was a member of the P.N.A. and P.R.C.U. and he loved to bowl. On September 5, 1942, in La Porte, IN, he married Elizabeth Goodson Day who preceded in death August 15, 2004. He is survived by his two daughters, Judy (Hershel) Jones of Knox, IN, Beckie (Mike) Moore of Three Oaks, MI; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; brother, Robert Day of La Porte, IN; and a sister, Shirley Hibner of Michigan City, IN. Fred was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 2 sons, Roger Day and James Day. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Tuesday, December 30, 2014, from 9:00 am until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Tuesday December 30, 2014 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery in La Porte, IN.
