October 22, 1930-September 7, 2021
Francis "Frank" L. Kessler, 90, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at home surrounded by his family.
He was born October 22, 1930 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Francis Kessler and Amelia (Truchon) Kessler.
A lifelong resident of La Porte, Frank graduated from La Porte High School. He joined the United States Army and served in Korea from 1951-1953. After returning to La Porte, Frank worked as a machinist and tool and die maker, most recently for Mayer Tool and Die. He was a member of the American Legion Hamon Gray Post 83, La Porte, the Michiana Antique Auto Club and was a union steward for the Machinist Local. Frank taught himself how to play guitar and loved music, especially country. He had many interests including shuffleboard, billiards, cards, golfing and fishing. Frank was a former stock car racer, owned a 1958 gold and white Chevy Bellaire, was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan and loved his Dairy Queen vanilla ice cream cones! Along with his late wife, Eldina "Dena", he was a "snowbird", spending winters in Mesa, Arizona and while there attended the American Legion post 27 in Apache Junction. And boy could he dance, swinging Dena around the floor while barely moving his feet.
Along with his beloved wife, who passed away September 6, 2018, Frank was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Paul and 2 sisters, Marianne Ivestor and Amelia Loeffler.
He is survived by his three daughters, Sharon (Darryl) Johnson, Catherine (Donald) Wright, Debbie (Greg) Cotter, all of La Porte; sister-in-law, Bea "Beattie" Kessler of Stillwell, IN; seven grandchildren, Rachel (Jay) Pignotti, Allison Johnson, Robert (Christi) Trusty, Calvin Trusty, Brittney (John) Satoski, Brodie (Kelley) Cotter, Shelby (Maurice) Killingsworth and 9 great - grandchildren.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dunes Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion during this most difficult time and suggest memorial donations in Francis' honor to Dunes Hospice, The La Porte Small Animal Shelter or the American Heart Association.
