Floyd Carnes Sr.

Mr. Floyd A. Carnes Sr., 84, of 11 Monterey Way, Port Saint Lucie, FL., died Sunday, Nov. 21, 2004 at 12:10 p.m. at the VA Hospital, West Palm Beach, FL. He was born Oct. 26, 1920, in Arcola, IL., to Alva R. and Ora L. Williams Carnes. He has lived most of his life in the LaPorte area moving to Florida four years ago. Mr. Carnes was a Core Maker for Teledyne Casting Service and also was a farmer most of his life. Me attended the LaPorte Missionary Church, a veteran of the US Army Air Corp during W.W.II flying with the 151 Bombidere Battlion and had flown 46 missions over the China, India Burma Theaters, his air ship was known as the Snafu. Graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1938 and was a 25 year member of the Winabago Travel Club. He enjoyed fishing, traveling, camping and carpentry. On March 31, 1945, in Michigan City, he married Burdetta Irene Gropp, who survivies. Also surviving are two daughters, Karla Daniel Foster of LaPorte, Lynda Richard Awald of Walkerton, IN.; one son, Floyd Carnes Jr. of Port Saint Lucie, FL.; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; two sisters, Mrs. Dorothy Carnes of Henderson NV., Evelyn Guill of Mount Vernon, IL. Preceded in death by his parents; and one sister Marjorie Thompson. The funeral will be held Saturday Nov. 27, 2004 at 2:30 pm at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. Carl Galloway officiating. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 pm and 9 am Saturday until time of the service. Burial will take place in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
