Florence Wilma Cummings October 22, 1920-October 3, 2015 The Laurel Estates Shuffleboard Team suffered a great loss October 3, 2015, when Florence Cummings peacefully passed away at her North Fort Myers, Florida home. She was born October 22, 1920 in Rolling Prairie, Indiana and married her main squeeze and grade-school-sweetheart, Frank J. Cummings, April 16, 1939. Her employment record includes numerous years of service fabricating serving trays at Harvel's in La Porte and serving greasy burgers to weary travelers at the Glasshouse Restaurant once located on the Indiana Toll Road just north of Rolling Prairie. Florence eventually accepted a position with Whirlpool Corporation playing with bubble wrap and Styrofoam peanuts where she fulfilled orders in the Shipping Department. She retired after 19 years of dedicated service. In her spare time, she could be found cooking the books for the family-owned motorcycle/snowmobile shop back in the mid-1970's. Florence was a member of the Guiding Light Community Church in North Fort Myers and VFW Women's Auxiliary in Rolling Prairie. Traveling and camping were among her favorite activities. Frank and Florence spent many years traveling to Canada, enjoying the great outdoors. Although unconfirmed, it is believed she could simultaneously clean a Northern Pike, wrestle a Grizzly Bear, and make S'mores by the campfire, and never break a sweat. The jury is still out! She is preceded in death by her husband Frank Cummings. She is survived by her son, Larry Cummings, grandchildren Chris (Tracey) Cummings and Jerry Cummings, all residing in Rolling Prairie, along with five great grand-children and two great, great grand-children. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, October 9, 2015 from 9:30 am, until time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Friday, October 9, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor JoEllyn Chadwick, officiating.
