Fern A. Eddy-Schultz

Fern Schultz, 92, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2021 at home with her daughter at her side.
She was born December 2, 1928 in La Porte, Indiana, the daughter of Charles Leroy and Cora Sarah (Stewig) Eddy.
In Michigan, Fern married Kenneth E Schultz, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Charles Eddy Jr. and Robert William Eddy. Fern is survived by her loving daughter, Lannette Crutchfield of La Porte.
A lifelong resident of the area, Fern was a beloved and well-respected member of the community, serving as the County Historian for decades. She worked for the state employment service until her retirement. Fern was the past president and charter member of the La Porte County Genealogical Society, member of the Indiana Historical society, past president of the La Porte County Historical Society and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and a La Porte Rose Rebekah for years. She was a former President of the Pine Lake Cemetery Asso., instrumental in the restoration of the chapel there. Fern was the leading authority on the Kingsbury Ordinance Plant, the editor of the Historical Society newsletter and authored the book, " La Porte County and Its Environs". In addition, she sang and played accordion and piano along with her talented musical family.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. Cremation has been selected. There will be a Memorial Celebration at a later date. Her burial will take place at Pine Lake Cemetery.
