Eugene Vermilyer

Eugene E. Vermilyer August 17, 1936-December 29, 2017 Mr. Eugene E. Vermilyer, 81, of New Carlisle, Indiana, formerly of Fish Lake, IN passed away Friday December 29, 2017 at Memorial Hospital in South Bend, IN. He was born August 17, 1936 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Ernest N. Vermilyer and Laura (Eisenmenger) Vermilyer. Eugene was a retired truck driver for Whirlpool Corp. and a retired farmer. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He was a member of the Sunday Farmers, North Liberty Masonic Lodge, the Orak Shrine, and he was a ham radio operator. On December 17, 1955, in Mill Creek, IN, he married Ann Churchill Vermilyer who survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Loren N. (Carol) Vermilyer of Rolling Prairie, IN, Carl (Jackie) Vermilyer of Indianapolis, IN; daughter, Lorrie (Mark) Egolf of La Porte, IN; five Grandchildren, Joshua Vermilyer, Tyler Vermilyer, Ashley Lindewald, Jason Vermilyer, Tony Vermilyer; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Phyllis Miller of La Porte, IN. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Delores Henock. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Tuesday, January 2, 2018, 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Wednesday, January 3, 2018, 9:00 am - 10:30 am. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday January 3, 2018 at 10:30 am with Mr. Dave Peery officiating. Interment will follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery, Mill Creek, Indiana. A Masonic service will be conducted by the North Liberty Masonic Lodge on Tuesday at 7:00 PM at the funeral home. The La Porte VFW-American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military service at the cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 2211 N.
