Esther Grom

Esther Craft Grom, 94, passed away September 26, 2009, in Arvada, Colorado, of complications from a heart attack suffered in August. She was born July 5, 1915, in LaPorte, Indiana, the daughter of George Bell and Lydia Brockman Bell. On May 10, 1941 in LaPorte, Indiana, she married George L. Craft, who preceded her in death September, 1963. Esther remarried on May 2, 1975 in LaPorte to Warren Grom who preceded her in death March of 2000. Esther was a homemaker and worked as a printing press operator at Whirlpool until her retirement in 1977. She was a lifelong resident of LaPorte until moving to Colorado 4 years ago. Esther enjoyed golf, dancing, playing cards, cribbage and get togethers with family and friends. Esther is survived by her two daughters, Catherine Craft of Arvada, CO, Margo Steve Schapanski of Fort Collins, CO; stepson David Lisa Grom of Louisburg, Kansas; her twin sister, Evelyn Jordan, of Niagara Falls, New York; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Esther was predeceased by three sisters Laura McCarty, Cora Koerner, Ethel Stone, and four brothers Arthur Bell, Walter Bell, Charles Bell, and Norman Bell. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Friday, October 2, 2009 from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday October 3, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Carl Galloway officiating. Interment will follow at the Kingsbury Cemetery, Kingsbury, Indiana.
