Emma Ruth Hammons, 94, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, February 10, 2023 at Brentwood in La Porte.

She was born September 14, 1928 in Petros, Tennessee, the daughter of James Isaac Wallace and Roselee (Woods) Wallace.

On September 18, 1949, in Tennessee, Emma married Glen Douglas Hammons, who preceded her in death, August 18, 2019.

Emma moved to the La Porte area in 1951 from Tennessee. Much of her career was spent with American Home Foods before retiring with Howmet.  She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, La Porte and in her younger days was involved in the activities of the church. Emma enjoyed listening to Classic Country music, dancing with Glen, and gardening. She adored her old dog Shane and since red was her favorite color, she loved red roses.

Emma is survived by her two sons, Rickey D (Judith) Hammons of La Porte, IN, Glen Hammons of La Porte, IN; three daughters, Sherry (Loran) Sosinski of La Porte, IN, Rita Woods of La Porte, IN, Kathy (Terrie Dohner) Hammons of Saginaw, MI; five grandchildren, Rickey J. (Ally) Hammons, Jennifer (Danny) Beerwart, Carrie Howard, Glen (Sara) Hammons, Michael (Jessica) Hammons and numerous great-grandchildren.

Emma was preceded in death by her son, Michael Hammons, sisters, Irene "Cotton" Daughtery, Bernice Massengill, Josephine Duncan and grandchild, Eric Levondowski.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, prior to the funeral service at 1:00 p.m., with Pastor Glen Hammons, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery next to her husband.
