Edna Smyers

Mrs. Edna N. Smyers, 95, of La Porte, Indiana, died Wednesday May 27, 2009 at La Porte Hospital in La Porte, IN. She was born March 13, 1914 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Daal Peters and Anna M. Carlson Peters, living in the LaPorte area, since 1926, coming from Chicago, IL. Edna worked as an office clerk for the LaPorte Co. Tuberculosis Assoc. for thirteen years, retiring in 1962. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in LaPorte, IN. Edna was a graduate of LaPorte High School. She loved to read and was an avid bridge player, Edna also loved cats. On September 26, 1936, in LaPorte, IN, she married Charles E. Smyers, Jr. who preceded her in death on February 28, 1968. She is survived by her son, Richard P. Smyers of Griffith, IN. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, step-father, Ralph W. Smith, brother, R. Charles Smith and sister, Doris Peters. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Sunday, May 31, 2009 from 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm & Monday, June 1, 2009 from 12:00 pm, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday June 1, 2009 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Jo Ellyn Chadwick, officiating. Interment will follow at the Patton Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana.
