Dorothy Stearns

Mrs. Dorothy F. Stearns, 76, of 1900 Andrew Ave., LaPorte, and formerly of 1104 L St., LaPorte, died Sunday, May 29, 2005, at 9:10 p.m. at Fountainview Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, La-Porte. She was born Nov. 23, 1928, in Munster, Ind., to Leo W. and Vera Rosenbaum Froh, and had lived in the LaPorte area for 58 years, coming from Hanna. Mrs. Stearns had worked as a switchboard operator for General Telephone and had also worked at LaPorte Hospital as a PBX operator. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, LaPorte, and was a graduate of Hanna High School. She was a LaPorte Hospital Auxiliary volunteer, worked with the Girl Scouts and held a PTA office. On July 4, 1948, in LaPorte, she married Richard Stearns, who died Jan. 13, 2001. Also preceding her in death were her parents and one brother, Richard Froh. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Donald Simpson of La-Porte and Donna Terry Stevens of Union Mills; three sons, Dr. William Sandy of Knoxville, Iowa, David Chong Ye of Las Vegas and Dennis Beth of Sarasota, Fla.; nine grandchildren; one sister, Edna Bennitt of LaPorte; and one brother, Leo H. Froh of Abilene, Texas. The funeral will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Haverstock Funeral Home, LaPorte, with Rev. John Beehler officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery, LaPorte.
