Mrs. Dorothy J. Glanz, 90, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010 at Golden Living Center Fountainview in LaPorte, IN. She was born December 26, 1919 in LaPorte, Indiana, the daughter of George E. Miller and Gladys McQuiston Miller. Dorothy was employed by Carstein's Department Store in Michigan City for more than 20 years She was a member of First United Methodist Church and former member of St. Luke United of Michigan City, IN. Dorothy was a charter member of the LaPorte County Area China Painters, the Indiana State Federation of Porcelain Painters and the International Federation of China Painters. She taught china painting in Northwest Indiana for many years and displayed and sold her hand painted china in Indiana, Illinois and Michigan. Some of her work is a part of a 24 plate setting given to the Indiana Governor for use at state dinners. Dorothy graduated from LaPorte High School and was a lifetime resident of LaPorte and Michigan City. Her favorite activities were china painting, hand quilting and working in her garden with her flowers. She loved her family and grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On June 19, 1943, in Michigan City, she married Carl Glanz who preceded her in death April 14, 1973. She is survived by her son, Warren Kathy Glanz of La Porte, IN; five grandchildren - Jason Glanz, Devin Stacey Glanz, Bryan Heather Glanz, Phillip Rebecca Glanz, Tyler Glanz; two great-grandchildren - Zachary and Ana Glanz, and one brother - Robert E. Jean Miller of La Porte, IN. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister, Mary E. Lounsbery. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, June 1, 2010 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Wednesday, June 2, 2010 from 9:00 am - until time of services. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday June 2, 2010 at 10:00 AM with Rev. JoEllyn Chadwick, officiating. Interment will follow at the Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. The family requests that memorials be made to the Visiting Nurse Association, 901 South Woodland Avenue, Michigan City, Indiana.
