Donna Bowers

Donna C. Bowers March 9, 1916-July 7, 2015 Donna C. Bowers, 99, of Union Mills, Indiana, died Tuesday July 7, 2015 at Miller's Health and Rehab in LaPorte, IN. She was born March 9, 1916 in Union Mills, Indiana, the daughter of John Grage and Caroline (Barker) Grage. Donna had retired from T.P. Laboratories, after retirement her and Elmer managed Hiigli Farm Bed and Breakfast for nearly 20 years. She was a member of Bethel Presbyterian Church of Union Mills. Music was Donna's passion she started a band program at the high school with her son, Eddie, called the Teen Notes. Later on she started playing piano with a dance band composed of musicians from North Judson called the Drifters. She performed with them for 22 years. After a short break she joined the Fun Follies and was a member for 25 years and the director for 22 years. The highlight of the Follies was when they preformed twice at the Indiana State Fair. Donna and Elmer had also been King and Queen at the Union Mills festival 3 years in a row. Donna received the Living Legend Award of LaPorte Co, in 2004 from the Swanson Activity Center. She was a member of the Swanson Center Sunshine Group and every Tuesday and Friday serving hot meals and entertaining the guests. On June 21, 1936, in Auburn, Indiana, she married Elmer C. Bowers who preceded her in death January 13, 2013. She is survived by her son, Edwin (Karen) Bowers of La Porte, IN; three step-grandchildren; eight step great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews, and great great nieces and nephews. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister, Katherine Howell, and daughter-in-law, Nancy Bowers. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Saturday, July 11, 2015, 12:00 pm until time of service A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday July 11, 2015 at 2:00 pm with Rev.
