Donald Eugene Sawyer Jr., 54, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday February 28, 2025 at Franciscan Health, Michigan City, IN.
He was born September 26, 1970 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Donald Sawyer Sr. and Sandra Irveen (Churchill) Sawyer.
A lifelong resident of the area, Donald served in the United States Army, stationed in Panama. On August 23, 2017, in La Porte, IN, he married Robin Bladecki, who survives. In his professional life, Donald found fulfillment in his career in electrical maintenance, where he applied his mechanical skills with precision and dedication. Beyond his work, Donald was a proud lifetime member of the American Legion, most currently with Post 434 in Kingsford Heights, IN. as well as other organizations such as the PRCU, PNA, and Fraternal Order of Eagles #2439, La Porte. Donald possessed an insatiable love for the open road and was often seen riding his Harley, whether it was a street glide or his Trike. He reveled in the thrill of the ride and the roar of the engine, believing that the louder the machine, the better. His enthusiasm extended to hot rods, where he enjoyed both the craftsmanship and the freedom they represented. Cooking was another of Donald’s passions, particularly when it came to his favorite, tacos. He was known for being a great griller and often hosted cookouts, creating an atmosphere of warmth and laughter among family and friends. His great sense of humor was a defining trait; he had a unique ability to make people laugh and find joy even in the simplest moments. An avid fan of thrillers, Donald had a penchant for Stephen King novels and enjoyed watching suspenseful movies that kept him on the edge of his seat. Donald’s interests extended to target shooting, where he took great pleasure in honing his skills. His fondness for Miller Lite beer added to the camaraderie of moments spent with friends, enjoying the outdoors and sharing stories.
Along with his wife of 7 years, he is survived by his two sons, JohnPaul Million-Sawyer of La Porte, IN, Derek (Gabriella Prince) Sawyer of La Porte, IN; stepson, Justin (Liz Sloffer) Bladecki of Billings, MT; daughter, Ashley (Shawn) Teague of La Porte, IN; brother, Doug Ainsworth of WA; three sisters, Kendra Ainsworth of TX, Joanna Green of La Porte, IN, Jennifer (Scott) Henning of La Porte, IN; six grandchildren, Kora D Sawyer, Daniel Caldwell, Aubree Teague, Harmony Teague, Shawn Teague, Jr., Jessie Teague; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews and many friends including his lifetime partner in crime, Brian Soales.
