Donald Gemberling, 79, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Saturday May 8, 2021 at VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, IN.
He was born May 10, 1941 in Union Mills, Indiana, the son of Arthur Gemberling and Ella Marie (Van Scoik) Gemberling.
On May 20, 2004, he married Gee Gee (Vawter-Stearns) Gemberling who survives.
Donald served in the United States Army and worked in Waste Management for the city. One thing for sure is that Don loved to garden. He was a hunter and loved anything to do with being in the outdoors. Don would host outdoor cook-out gatherings for family and friends. When the children were growing up he would often take them camping. Don was a people person who never met a stranger. He truly enjoyed just talking with people. Most importantly, Don was very passionate about his family and extended family.
Along with his wife Gee Gee, Don is survived by his son, Roger (Jane) Gemberling of Columbus, IN; step-daughter, Judy Stearns of Bonners Ferry, ID; sister, Donna Kalsow of La Porte, IN; granddaughter Kathryn (Josh) Coomer of Kentucky; niece, Kristine Miller of Brownsburg, IN; five step-grandchildren, Wayne (Kevyn) Ferguson, Barbara (Michael) McCalmon, John (Amy) Ferguson, Tiffany (Chris) Qualls, and Brittany Ferguson, eight great grandchildren and several cousins.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Danny Gemberling.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, June 26th at Patton Cemetery with military honors.
