Don Mcspadden

Mr. Don D. McSpadden, 78, of Michigan City, Indiana, died Thursday March 25, 2010 at the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oaklawn, Illinois. He was born February 26, 1932 in Batesville, Arkansas, the son of Jackson McSpadden and Carrie Grigsby McSpadden. He had lived in the Michigan City, area for fifty-five years, coming from Arkansas. Don worked as a welder for Levy Co. a division of Bethlehem Steel. He was a member of the Community Baptist Church South Bend, IN. and Senior Saints of the church. He was a veteran of the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Don enjoyed doing woodworking and was an avid reader; he loved spending time at Starbucks and traveling. Don especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. On June 8, 1957, in LaPorte Co. at the Galena Baptist Church, he married Maxine Gifford McSpadden who survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Bill Faith McSpadden of Orange Park, FL, Bub Vanessa McSpadden of Freedom, ME.; two daughters, Joy Bill Jasperson of Michigan City, IN, Pam McSpadden of Michigan City, IN; eleven grandchildren, Amber, Rebekah, Caleb, Elisabeth, Daniel McSpadden, Joshua McSpadden, Hannah Lewin; Matthew McSpadden, Lynn, Amy, Kayla Jasperson; three great-grandchildren, Ember McSpadden, River McSpadden, Josiah Lewin. Don was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters and two brothers. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Tuesday, March 30, 2010 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm & Wednesday, March 31, 2010 from 10:00 am, until time of services. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Wednesday March 31, 2010 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Steve Stadtmiller, officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Community Baptist Church in South Bend, Indiana.
