Dolores Kime, 94, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Sunday, August 25, 2024, peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones in the comfort of her home in La Porte, IN.

She was born February 6, 1930 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Wilbur Baity and Helen Agnes (Tracy) Baity.

Dolores moved to La Porte in 1940 from Illinois, where she became a long-time resident. Dolores graduated from La Porte High School in 1948 and became a Telephone Operator for Bell Telephone, eventually retiring from a telephone manufacturing company. On October 12, 1957, in LaPorte, IN, she married the love of her life, Charles E. Kime, who preceded her in death January 6, 2015. An active member of the First Presbyterian Church in La Porte, Dolores was proud to be recognized as the oldest living member of her congregation. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her through the joys and challenges she faced. As a talented crafter, she enjoyed activities such as macrame, knitting, and painting and she found joy in sewing and creating beautiful dresses. Along with crafting, Dolores also had a green thumb that brought life to her garden. Dolores celebrated her children's achievements as a devoted sports mom, a supportive 4H mom and den mother. Known affectionately as the “hostess with the mostest,” Dolores brought people together for countless celebrations and family gatherings, creating warm memories that will be cherished by all who knew her.

She is survived by her daughter, Susanne (Harry Meeks) Kime; son, Robert Charles (Vanessa) Kime of Indiana; three grandchildren, Eric Kime, Amanda Kime, Steven Kime; Lisa Downey, who was like a daughter and many nieces and nephews who she loved. 

Along with her husband of 58 years, Dolores was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Raymond (Lela) Baity and James Baity; two sisters, JoAnn (John) Jamaradak, Patricia (Robert) McGinnis.

Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN. A memorial service for Dolores will be held at the Presbyterian Church of La Porte, 307 Kingsbury Ave, La Porte, IN. Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Jane Daniels, officiating. Cremation has taken place.
