Diego Gentile

Mr. Diego S. Gentile, 78, of Rolling Prairie, Indiana, died Thursday September 3, 2009 at his home. He was born January 31, 1931 in Bronx, New York, the son of Carmelo Gentile and Rose Quarrantatto Gentile. He has lived in the LaPorte area for the last 15 years coming from New Jersey. Diego worked as an accountant for Cosmopolitan Mutual Life Co. and North American Reinsurance Co. He retired in 1993. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Diego was an avid gardener. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed being around animals and spending winter in Florida. On January 7, 1951, in New York, he married Maria Ingui Gentile who survives. He is also survived by his son Carmine Lynn Gentile of Peru, IN; 2 daughters Rose Carlos Santini of La Porte, IN, Rita Jim Strobel of Scotch Plains, NJ; 7 Grandchildren and 7 Great Grandchildren. Diego was preceded in death by his parents. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. A Funeral Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Tuesday September 8, 2009 at 10:00 AM with Father Ian Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, 111 Sunnybrook Ct., South Bend, IN. 46637.
