Delbert Crawford

Delbert W. Crawford, 84, of LaPorte, IN, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2011 at Indiana University Health La Porte Hospital. He was born September 23, 1926 in LaPorte Co., Indiana, the son of Wilbur E. Crawford and Blanche (McMillin) Crawford. Delbert had worked thirty-three years at Allis-Chalmers. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Men's Club of the church. U.S. Navy Veteran of WW II, life member of the Michigan City Moose Lodge #980 and a member of the Wanatah American Legion. Delbert loved gardening, and rolling lawns for people. He enjoyed making wine, woodworking and enjoyed reading western books. On June 19, 1948, in LaPorte, IN, he married Beverly Henning Crawford who preceded him in death May 16, 2011. He is survived by his sister - Audrey Cook of LaPorte, IN; 2 sister-in-laws - Barbara Brown of La Porte, IN, Geraldine Henning of La Porte, IN; 4 nieces - Pat Rodgers of La Porte, IN, Kim Brown of La Porte, IN, Pam Sobczyk of San Diego, CA, Wendy Sanders of Mt. Juliet, TN; nephew - Scott Henning of La Porte, IN; and several other nieces and nephews. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents, wife, six sisters, six brothers, and nephew, Jeffrey Henning. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind. where the family will receive friends Sunday, July 10, 2011 from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm & Monday, July 11, 2011 from 9:30 am, until time of service. Services will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Monday July 11, 2011 at 10:30 am with Rev. Helen Nusbaum, officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, IN.
