Darwin B. Underwood October 9, 1939-December 5, 2015 Darwin B. Underwood, 76, of Union Mills, Indiana, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Franciscan St. Anthony Hospice in Michigan City, IN. He was born October 9, 1939 in La Porte, Indiana, the son of Frank B. Underwood and Clara (Wildfang) Underwood. Darwin was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church of Union Mills and member of the Historical Society. He was a Veteran of the US Army, a member of the American Legion Union Mills Post #295, Conservation Club of Union Mills. Darwin received a Honorary Member Award from the Union Mills Volunteer Fire Department, after being a member for 17 years. He had worked at Whirlpool Mfg. for 17 years, retiring in 2002. Darwin liked to walk, and took care of the community of Union Mills. He loved nature, and bird watching, and was a big avid I.U. sports fan. Darwin was a loving father, grandfather and husband. He will be dearly missed by all that knew him. The family would like to thank the hospice nurses at Franciscan St. Anthony's in Michigan City. On November 17, 1962, in LaPorte Co, he married Dorothy (Fletcher) Underwood who survives. He is also survived by his two sons, Pete (Etchon) Eaton of Havelock, NC, Frank B. (Samantha) Underwood of Kingsford Heights, IN; daughter, Darla Rae Stone of Union Mills, IN; five grandchildren, Crystal, Corissa, Brian, Ashley and Elizabeth, one great-grandaughter, Sophie and one sister, Joan Watson of Michigan City, IN. Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, and two grandchildren, Baby Frank and Baby Briana. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, IN where the family will receive friends Tuesday, December 8, 2015, from 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm and at the Bethel Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, December 9, 2015, from 10:00 am, until time of service. A life celebration will be held at Bethel Presbyterian Church, Wednesday December 9, 2015 at 11:00 am with Pastor John Beehler, officiating. Interment will follow at the Union Mills Cemetery, Union Mills, Indiana. A full Military Honors will be conducted by the Union Mills and LaPorte American Legions at the cemetery.
