Daniel Thornberry

Mr. Daniel J. Thornberry, age 66, of La Porte, Ind., died Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at his residence in La Porte, Ind. He was born on October 20, 1941 in Hammond, Ind. to the late Wallace Thornberry and the late Valeria Reis Thornberry. Mr. Thornberry has been in the LaPorte, area for two months, coming from Valparaiso with most of his life in the Munster, Ind. area. Mr. Thornberry was employed by the Town of Munster as a truck driver for 22 years and for School Town of Munster as a custodian for 14 years. A member of First Church of God. He was a member of the Eagles #2529 in Cedar Lake. Received "Outstanding Employee of the Year" award from the Wilbur Wright Middle School. He was known as "Poppy" to all of his grandchildren, that he loved so much. He touched thousands of lives.... He was married on September 10, 1960 in Hammond, Indiana to Gerry M. Westcott, who survives. He is survived by his wife Mrs. Gerry Thornberry of LaPorte, Ind.; One Daughter, Nancy Paul Fredericks of Valparaiso, Ind.; Two Sons, David Thornberry of La Porte, Ind., Dan R. Amy Thornberry of La Porte, Ind.; Eight Grandchildren, Maggie Thornberry of LaPorte, Ind., Amy Sailors of Nashville, Tenn., Ashley Fredericks of Valparaiso, Ind., Jacob Fredericks of Valparaiso, Ind., Matthew Fredericks of Valparaiso, Ind., Emily Fredericks of Valparaiso, Ind., Todd Crigo of Minnesota., Bobby Young of LaPorte, Ind.; One Brother, Jim Jan Thornberry of Cedar Lake, Ind.; One Sister, Wallis Tony Echterling of Crown Point, Ind.; Several Nieces and Nephews. He is preceded in death by his; parents; One Brother, Dave Thornberry and One Sister, Lynnette Thornberry. Arrangements are being handled by Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., 602 Maple Ave., LaPorte, Ind., where the family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM Monday, October 20, 2008. Funeral service will be at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc. at 2:00 PM Monday, October 20, 2008, with Rev. Jeff Zigler officiating.
