Dan L. Smith October 12, 1934-February 13, 2014 Mr. Dan L. Smith, 79, of Michigan City, Indiana, died Thursday February 13, 2014 at Franciscan St. Anthony Health in Crown Point, IN. He was born October 12, 1934 in Mishawaka, Indiana, the son of Deloss Smith and Lois Marie (Shaw) Smith. Dan worked as a tool and die maker for Teeter Tool and Die. He was former volunteer fireman for the Coolspring Volunteer Fire Department. On February 13, 1954, in LaPorte, IN, he married Delight Dinger Smith who preceded in death April 26, 2004. He is survived by his son - David (Chrissy) Smith of Michigan City, IN; 3 daughters - Cindy Smith of South Bend, IN, Christine (Galen) Dixon of Hickory Hills, IL, Laurie (Robert) Glennon of Michigan City, IN; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; 2 sisters - Arlene Pajor of La Porte, IN, Margaret Hall of MO; and 2 brothers - Donald Smith of Coloma, MI, and Deloss Smith of Sarasota, FL. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and sister, Ardes Engelbrecht. Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends Friday, February 21, 2014 from 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm and Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 9:30 am until time of the service. A life celebration will be held at Haverstock Funeral Home, Inc., Saturday February 22, 2014 at 10:30 am with Rev. Billy Nickrand officiating. Interment will follow at the Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte, Indiana. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Research.
